Rows of vines, the southern slope and the opposite shore: Laposa Borterasz's panorama is an iconic backdrop to a Badacsony tasting.
Choose it ifOne of Badacsony's finest panoramas, with Laposa wines to discover through tasting flights or seasonal dishes.
Not for you ifAnyone seeking a cheap, quick glass of wine, level access or a tucked-away, intimate family cellar.
Best time to goLate afternoon, so your tasting finishes with sunset over Balaton; book at weekends and in high season.

Laposa Borterasz sits above the vines on Badacsony’s southern slope, halfway up the hill. From the terrace on the former Bogyay estate, Lake Balaton opens out almost across its full width, while the Laposa family’s Badacsony story continues in the glass.

The family’s first wine was the 1992 Rajnai Rizling; construction of today’s Borterasz began in 1998, and Bazalt Borozó opened in summer 2004. Now covering 40 hectares, the estate works mainly with local white varieties: Olaszrizling, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Kéknyelű and Furmint. The range extends from fresh, light wines to single-vineyard and barrel-aged bottles.

Borterasz is open year-round and is more than a simple tasting venue. Flights of three or six wines are accompanied by local cheeses, hams, cold spreads and, seasonally, more substantial hot dishes. The panorama, professional service and well-structured wine selection make it easy to come up for a glass — and hard to leave before sunset.

The person behind the place

The man who recognised the power of the southern slopes

Laposa József and Eleonóra's story began on a train to Badacsony in 1978. From the early 1990s, József selected some of the wine region's best-positioned plots, and the first Laposa wine was the 1992 Rajnai Rizling. The estate he built has grown into a 40-hectare family business; his son Laposa Bence has led the next generation for more than a decade.

Local tip

Walk up, take a taxi down

The Borterasz is halfway up the hill, so the walk is steep. If you plan a proper tasting, do not drive; book ahead and leave time for the panorama too.

The BalatonEats meal plan

How to put your meal together

  1. 01
    Vitorlás Olaszrizling

A fresh, approachable introduction to Badacsony's principal grape, and a light start to enjoy with the terrace panorama.

  2. 02
    Kéknyelű

The region's rare, distinctive grape shows a taut, mineral side, setting Laposa's wines apart from simple summer drinking.

  3. 03
    Apukám Világa Olaszrizling

Dedicated to Laposa József, this single-vineyard wine provides a personal finish: a deeper, more concentrated wine connecting the family story to its terroir.
