A csárda that began with a barrel of wine
The checked tablecloths at Nádas belong to a genuine family hospitality story. György Ambrus and his wife Gizi opened a small thatched wine tavern here in 1992. Local wine came from a large barrel, while Gizi cooked the food. Bean goulash, fish soup, garlic pork and simple tavern snacks laid the foundations for the later restaurant.
From summer tavern to year-round meeting place
A dining room was added in 1994, the building was subsequently rebuilt, and winterisation followed in 2007. Now carried forward by the second generation, Nádas is not just a beach-season address. The garden is part of its appeal in warm weather; indoor rooms take over on cooler days. Flowers, wooden furniture and red-and-white cloths in the photographs reinforce this traditional, homely character.
Dishes worth returning for
The kitchen is rooted in Hungarian cooking but describes itself as open to new flavours. Fish soup is part of its approach throughout the seasons, with pikeperch and catfish also represented. The house names “Borsos zsák” and honey-glazed ribs with roasted cabbage among its longstanding favourites. These are useful starting points, rather than guarantees of what will be available on your visit.
A weekly selection complements the regular dishes. The restaurant highlights local suppliers for preserves, pickles and a substantial part of its meat supply. Wines mainly come from Balaton producers, alongside bottles from other Hungarian wine regions.
How we would build a lunch
For a classic csárda meal, we would start with fish soup, consider the honey-glazed ribs and leave room for homemade somlói, the Hungarian sponge-and-cream dessert. Three courses are not compulsory: a substantial main followed by a shared dessert can also make a comfortable meal. Somlói is one of the favourites singled out by the restaurant itself.
