Café Maran is in Siófok at Petőfi sétány 38, on the ground floor of the former Villa Gréta. It opened in summer 2019 as one of Siófok’s first specialty cafés. Close to the promenade, yet surprisingly calm: a green terrace with parasols, good coffee, and plates more interesting than the usual Balaton breakfast. Important: the 2026 season closed on 20 September, and the next opening date isn’t known yet.
Coffee and brunch
The coffee comes from Maran’s own roastery, freshly ground, and if it doesn’t come out right, they remake it. Ask which roast is in the grinder. The kitchen does international brunch: in summer 2026 Turkish eggs came back, with garlic yoghurt, chilli crisp and sourdough, alongside a breakfast burger with an Angus patty, truffle mayo and a fried egg in a Babushka Bakery bun.
Earlier there was Eggs Benedict with tiger prawns, an avocado croissant and Croque Monsieur too. The sweet signature is the pistachio-raspberry croissant, which was on the menu for years. When we checked, a brunch dish with a drink came to around 5,000–9,000 HUF.
The place
Modern and bright, with a glazed terrace and green garden tables. Families and dogs are welcome. On certain days you could also buy Babushka bread.
Good to know
A seasonal place, currently closed. Check their social media before the next opening. Premium prices, not a quick cheap breakfast. At peak times there have been waits of 45–50 minutes, and the kitchen sometimes closed hours before the café. Parking around the promenade is paid.
Who it’s for
Anyone in Siófok who wants to start the day with good coffee and a more creative breakfast, away from the promenade noise. Next summer, on a weekday morning.
The person behind the place
From guest to owner
Maran opened in 2019 as coffee roaster Marcell Losonczy's showroom: he wanted to show what happens to the bean in the cup. In 2023 the café didn't open for a while, and that's when Alexa Kiss got in touch; she and her partner used to have Sunday breakfast here. They reached an agreement and the place reopened within days. Alexa runs the hospitality, and the coffee still comes from Marcell's roastery.

Turkish eggs
Poached eggs on garlic Turkish yoghurt with chilli crisp, ghee, dill and sourdough. Back by popular demand in 2026.
Local tip
Specialty coffee too
Ask about the roast in use and its tasting notes: a fruitier espresso is quite different from the usual chocolatey blend. If the pistachio-raspberry croissant comes back, order it.

What guests say
What stays with guests?
Very good: many praise the coffee and the breakfasts, and people come for more than the nice interior. Criticism is mainly about prices and service at peak times.
