In the heart of Szántód, close to the Lake Balaton cycle path, Bubistró Specialty Coffee is a bright, vintage-style café and breakfast spot that opened in 2021. Its name comes from Bubbancs, or Bubi, the owner’s little dog — so it is no surprise that dogs are particularly welcome here.
Coffee is undoubtedly the main attraction. Bubistró serves beans from Berlin’s The BARN, a top-tier name on the international specialty scene and a rare find around Balaton. Both espresso and filter coffee are taken seriously, the beans change regularly, and the coffee is prepared on a La Marzocco KB90 machine.
If you are staying for more than a quick espresso, brunch is available from 9:00 to 13:00. Avocado toast with poached eggs, Eggs Benedict or Royal, the Bubistró breakfast, cheddar grilled sandwiches and homemade pastries form the core of the menu; plant-based milks and vegan cakes are also available.
For something sweet, try the aranygaluska walnut pull-apart dessert with homemade salted caramel ice cream, or a seasonal dessert. Cold brew and espresso tonic are particularly good in summer, and you can also buy The BARN beans to take home.
Bubistró operates seasonally, so checking current opening hours before setting out is essential, particularly in autumn and winter. When it is open, the limited seating and popular brunch make an early arrival worthwhile.
