Best time to goFriday evening for a Pláne Péntek event, or Sunday lunchtime for a quieter tasting flight.

Pláne Badacsony is not a showcase for a single winery but a concentrated tasting of the whole wine region. Architect and wine enthusiast Tóth Ádám revived the tiny former Poharazó building near Badacsony’s old row of wine taverns in 2016; its cabin-like interior and relaxed terrace have since become one of the area’s best introductions to local wine.

Big names, tiny family cellars and hard-to-find bottles sit alongside one another on the shelves and in the glasses. You do not need to know in advance which vineyard or grape variety interests you: simply describe the flavours you enjoy and the team will build a tasting around them. The 70 ml tasting measures make it possible to compare several Badacsony Olaszrizlings, Kéknyelűs or reds in a single sitting.

Pláne is more wine bar than restaurant: wines are accompanied by snacks, cheeses, spreads and occasional tapas, while good coffee is another strong reason to visit during the day. Fridays often bring winemaker events and music, and the terrace fills quickly in summer. Anyone who wants not only to drink Badacsony but to understand it will soon find themselves in conversation here.

The person behind the place

An interpreter of the wine region

Architect Tóth Ádám saw potential in the tiny former Poharazó building and opened a wine bar in 2016 representing all of Badacsony rather than a single cellar. He selects from large and small, famous and hidden wineries alike, presenting the wines not merely as products but through their vineyards, people and stories.

Local tip

Choose a direction, not a wine

Describe the acidity, body or aromas you enjoy and ask for 70 ml tasting measures. This lets you compare several wineries and vineyards without committing to large glasses.

The BalatonEats meal plan

How to put your meal together

  1. 01
    Kéknyelű tasting

Comparing Badacsony's distinctive grape across several producers really reveals the importance of the vineyard and the winemaker's style.

  2. 02
    Olaszrizling flight

Explore the region's most important grape through fresh, light wines and more serious barrel-aged examples.

  3. 03
    Wine snacks with local cheeses

Not a main course but a well-chosen accompaniment: it gives you time with the wines while bringing local flavours to the table.
