The gastropub that grew out of a beach snack bar
Neked Főztem began in 2015 by the entrance to Zánka beach. A year later its gastropub opened on Fő utca: the small snack bar gave way to a more comfortable, sit-down restaurant. Working with local producers remains part of its own introduction. That history helps put the name in context: this is not a quick bite between swims, but a lunch or dinner worth planning in its own right.
Village house, restaurant attention
Photos of the entrance and tables convey its homely character well. Stone walls, dark wood, flowers, simple white tables and a blue watering can repurposed as a planter set the scene. The plates, meanwhile, are much more deliberately composed than the name of a traditional village pub might suggest. Colourful vegetables and separately presented accompaniments are as much part of the picture as the rustic building.
It also appears in the Michelin Guide’s current selection. The guide highlights a short Hungarian menu, local wines and a welcoming, rustic interior; on colder evenings, a fireplace contributes to the atmosphere. This is a guide recommendation, not a Michelin star. Approach it accordingly: a carefully put-together meal in an informal setting.
Familiar foundations, different accompaniments
Hungarian cooking here does not mean that every dish arrives in its familiar traditional-restaurant form. Judging by the website’s selection, meat and fish are accompanied by prominent vegetables, sauces and varied side dishes. Read the entire dish description rather than simply picking the main ingredient: the same meat can make a very different lunch with light vegetables than with a substantial potato accompaniment.
The uploaded photographs bring that approach to life. They include a colourful salad plate, a red cream soup, a browned side dish and fresh herbs. The gallery illustrates atmosphere and presentation, not a daily menu: do not automatically assume the photographed dishes are available today.

Leave room for dessert
Curd-cheese dumplings recur in several independent guest accounts and also appear on the website’s indicative menu. That makes them the most reliable starting point for planning a first visit. You do not need to eat three substantial courses for a complete experience: dessert and coffee after a main course can make a satisfying finish.
The terrace and personable service also come up frequently in guest accounts. However, an Ittjártam report from summer 2024 mentions difficult parking, and more recent reviews are not uniformly positive about value and service. Booking ahead and allowing a comfortable amount of time for your meal can help here too.
Whose plans does it suit?
Consider it for dinner for two, lunch with friends or a meal stop on an outing in the Balaton Uplands. The setting is relaxed, but the spending is restaurant-level: do not plan a cheap snack-bar lunch on the strength of the word gastropub. Anyone with strict dietary requirements should enquire before booking. The short selection can make decisions easier, but leaves fewer alternatives if you avoid an ingredient or a dish has sold out that day.
Worth a taste
Baked curd-cheese dumplings
A recurring favourite in guest accounts, also listed on the venue's own indicative menu. A good reason to leave room for something sweet after your main.
Local tip
Plan for the whole bill
The website states a 12% service charge and says bills cannot be split. If dining with friends, agree how to handle the shared payment before ordering.
The BalatonEats meal plan
How to put your meal together
- 01Start: the day's soup
Ask what has been made that day. If you also want dessert, enquire about portion sizes before ordering a full meal.
- 02Main course: choose by the accompaniments too
Read about the sauce and vegetables as well. Here they define a dish's character just as much as its meat or fish.
- 03Finish: curd-cheese dumplings
Confirm availability when ordering. Together with coffee, they can provide a satisfying finish even if you skipped a starter.
What guests say
What stays with guests?
Atmosphere and dessert are the strongest common themes. Positive accounts highlight a friendly welcome and inventive food, while reservations mainly concern value and inconsistency. These are public guest experiences, not our own restaurant review.
Based on individual Ittjártam accounts from 2023–2024 and Google reviews from 2024–2025 reproduced on Wanderlog. Michelin's professional description was considered separately from guest reviews.+
What brings people back
- Several accounts highlight the rustic setting and terrace atmosphere.
- Curd-cheese dumplings are a frequently mentioned dessert.

!
Good to know before you go
- Opinions on value are divided; do not budget for an inexpensive restaurant meal.
- A dish on the short menu may occasionally sell out, so have a second choice.
- Not all service experiences are equally favourable; mention your time constraints in advance if your schedule is tight.
