On ZánKapu’s bright, panoramic terrace, Gyógynövény Fagylalt Műhely is not an overpowering experiment in medicinal herbs but a thoroughly appealing artisan ice-cream shop. Fresh fruit remains the star, while local plants add subtle background flavours.
A gentle touch of herbs
Mint refreshes elderflower, basil enhances strawberry, and lavender is cooked into the apricot jam in Dörgicsei zserbó. Alongside creative combinations, the counter also offers dependable classics, so cautious tasters will still find chocolate, vanilla or fruit ice cream.
Zánkai álom and locally grown fruit
One house signature is Zánkai álom: an exciting yet harmonious meeting of a milk base, raspberry jam and pumpkin-seed oil. Balatoni nyár and the seasonal fruit flavours also capture the area’s spirit. No colourings or flavour enhancers are used; if an ingredient is not good enough, the flavour temporarily disappears from the counter instead.
Taking free-from options seriously too
All fruit ice creams are dairy-, lactose- and gluten-free, and sugar-free flavours are offered periodically too. Ice cream is sold by weight, so trying smaller amounts of several flavours makes sense. The terrace overlooking Hegyestű is also a good stop on a bike ride, with homemade cordials and Balaton wine spritzers completing the break.
The workshop opens seasonally, usually from Easter to October; check the latest opening hours on Facebook before setting out.

Local tip
Try several flavours, but watch the scales
Ice cream is sold by weight, so the total is known only once it is weighed. Try smaller amounts of several seasonal flavours.
