A Konyhám Stúdió 365 is not somewhere you wander into by chance. It operates on the third floor of the Balaton Üzletház shopping building in central Fonyód, and getting there is already part of the story: you must cross the austere, almost deserted building to reach a bright, personal and visually striking restaurant upstairs.
The contrast creates one of the place’s best moments. Uncertainty downstairs; upstairs, an open kitchen, partial views of Lake Balaton, bold dishes and Szikra Gabi’s energetic hospitality. This is not a quick stop between activities but a Balaton experience in its own right.
Why make it a destination?
The kitchen builds on modern Hungarian foundations, translating familiar flavours into contemporary, sometimes playful forms with bold seasoning and striking presentation. Both the Michelin Guide and the Hungarian Gault&Millau guide list it, highlighting personal hospitality, characterful flavours and local wine pairings.
What should you order?
The menu is short and changes seasonally, so there is no guaranteed permanent order. Based on four visits, the confit duck leg is a dish worth climbing to the third floor for on its own: tender, deeply flavoured and more than just attractive plating. Do not automatically skip dessert either; curd-cheese dumplings are a recurring favourite in guest reviews. If you order wine, ask for a local recommendation.
What kind of evening should you expect?
Neither stiff fine dining nor a traditional Balaton restaurant. Think relaxed professionalism: easy conversation, an open kitchen, creative plates and a host whose presence gives the place a personality. It works for a special occasion without requiring formal dress.
How much does it cost?
Two people can expect roughly HUF 25,000–30,000 for a main course each, a starter or dessert and drinks. This is an indicative snapshot, not a fixed menu price: seasonal dishes and drink choices can readily change the total.
Getting there, step by step
Look for Balaton Üzletház at Ady Endre utca 5. Go in even if the building initially seems closed or lifeless, then find the lift or stairs and head to the third floor. Do not look for a conventional restaurant entrance on the street. The railway station and harbour are nearby; for drivers, the surrounding paid public parking is the most straightforward option.
Booking and timing
The currently published hours are Friday and Saturday 12:00–22:00 and Sunday 12:00–18:00, with Monday to Thursday closed. Given the short opening week and limited capacity, it is worth calling ahead. Always check the official website before setting out, as hours and menus can change.

The person behind the place
Szikra Gabi’s kitchen
One of the most memorable parts of a visit is not on the menu: Szikra Gabi’s warm, energetic presence. The personal touch is not a marketing line here, but part of the evening.

Local tip
Do not turn back inside the shopping building
Balaton Üzletház may initially look closed or deserted. Go in, find the lift or stairs and head to the third floor: the restaurant upstairs is an entirely different world.

A worthy finish, repeatedly praised in guest reviews too. Check the current selection ahead.
What guests say
What stays with guests?
Recurring praise converges on the same points: friendly, dynamic service, bold flavours, creative presentation, appropriate portions and memorable desserts. Many guests specifically highlight the flexibility and the sense that the place offers a personal experience, not just food. The most common reservation concerns the unusual, austere approach rather than the kitchen.

What brings people back
- Bold, distinctive flavours.
- Creative, striking presentation.
- Szikra Gabi's friendly, exceptionally approachable presence.
- Good local wine pairings and views of Lake Balaton.
!
Good to know before you go
- The approach is distinctly uninviting: you must pass through an austere, almost empty shopping building to reach the third floor. It is easy to feel unsure on a first visit.
