At Zenit, the view sets the mood from the first minute: Lake Balaton opens out in a broad panorama from the hillside terrace above Vonyarcvashegy. Yet this is more than a restaurant with a view. The former Bock Bisztró Balaton, which changed its name and identity in 2023, now welcomes guests year-round with modern Hungarian and regional dishes and a serious wine list.
Master chef Ács István showcases ingredients from Balaton and Zala through assured technique and approachable dishes. Fish, game, classic Hungarian flavours and seasonal vegetables all feature, accompanied by a wine list of almost seventy labels. The 2025 Gault&Millau awarded the restaurant one chef’s hat.
It is a particularly strong choice for a sunset dinner, but also works well for a family lunch or a long afternoon over wine. As part of a hotel, the restaurant benefits from a stable operation, free parking and the fact that bad weather does not mean missing the view: the lake remains in sight from the conservatory too.
Worth a taste
Catfish roulade with paprika sauce and curd-cheese dumplings
One of the best snapshots of the current chef's specials: Balaton fish, familiar Hungarian flavours and a playful accompaniment on a single plate.
Local tip
Timing is half the secret here
Request a terrace table for sunset and book ahead at weekends. In bad weather, the panoramic conservatory is the reliable choice.

Balaton character, Hungarian flavour foundations and contemporary presentation — one of Zenit's best calling cards.

A lighter, fruity finish that suits the end of a dinner with panoramic views.
