In central Balatonfüred, a few steps from Tagore promenade, Zelna Bisztró shows how a family winery can grow into an entire Balaton way of life. Lukács Lilla and Barabás Barna founded Zelna in 2014; a wine bar opened in 2019 alongside their own organic wines and has since become a serious, Michelin-recommended bistro.
The kitchen presents Hungarian comfort food in a finely tuned contemporary form. Vegetables from its own Kiskert garden and ingredients from nearby producers often appear on the plates: smoked sturgeon, breaded tripe or fermented cucumber, pike-perch, duck leg and veal fillet feature on a short, seasonal menu. Wine pairing is no mere decoration: Zelna’s Olaszrizlings, organic wines and reds speak another language of the same landscape.
The bright, modern space and shady terrace work equally well for a quick glass of wine or a full dinner. The surrounding area is lively in summer, and tables fill quickly at weekends, so booking is strongly recommended. If you are looking for a polished yet relaxed wine bistro close to Balaton’s shore, you are in the right place.
