Casa Christa begins the performance as you arrive. A narrow road lined with almond trees and vines leads up Kis-Gella hill above Balatonszőlős; at the top, views open across Lake Balaton, Tihany and the surrounding hills. The 45,000-square-metre estate combines restaurant, garden, event venue and accommodation in restored press houses. It would be easy to rely solely on the panorama, yet Casa Christa’s strongest argument remains its kitchen.
Chef Tóth Keve and his mentor Barna Ádám have developed the restaurant in a contemporary Hungarian direction. The foundations are familiar: Hungarian flavours, the seasons, vegetables, fruit and herbs grown on the estate, and nearby producers. French discipline and Mediterranean lightness join them on the plate. The menu is short and changes several times a season, while the blackboard specials are more experimental.
Why make a special trip?
Casa Christa received the Michelin Bib Gourmand distinction four times between 2022 and 2025; Michelin’s current listing also places it among good-value venues with a Mediterranean character. The 2026 Gault&Millau guide awards it 14/20 points and two toques. Tóth Keve won Dining Guide’s Young Chef Talent of the Year award in 2025. These are not shiny ornaments beside the entrance: they reinforce the same picture as the menu—serious cooking that does not want to feel stiff.
What should you look for on the menu?
A permanent shortlist is difficult because the offering follows the seasons. In a 2026 chef interview, Tóth Keve called császármorzsa the signature dish that cannot be removed; beef fillet Rossini is another dependable crowd favourite. Read the whole daily blackboard too: several dishes that later reach the menu make their debut there.
The style is not about miniature tasting bites. The plates are striking, but flavours are confident and portions generous. Alongside the Hungarian–French approach come Mediterranean acidity, fresh vegetables and contrasting textures. Vegetarian and vegan diners are not limited to one token solution: official information promises several choices.
Breakfast, lunch or dinner?
They open from midday on Friday and from the morning on Saturday and Sunday. Weekend breakfast is a particularly good introduction to the estate, while lunch offers the panorama in full daylight. At dinner, the terrace and sunset provide the strongest backdrop. The kitchen takes a service break from 16:30 to 18:00, so do not plan to order between late lunch and early dinner.
With children, dogs or a car
Casa Christa is a rare combination: award-winning cooking that remains family- and dog-friendly. There is a separate children’s menu, and dogs are welcome on the estate too. It has private parking, and Gault&Millau also indicates charging for electric vehicles. It is less practical on foot or by public transport; the final stretch is a narrow, winding vineyard road, so allow a few extra minutes in darkness or bad weather.
The overall guest picture
Public feedback most often returns to the panorama, tranquillity and attentive staff. Guests frequently assess the restaurant and press-house accommodation as one experience: dinner, Balaton wine and a night on the estate. The compromise is more logistical than culinary: closed midweek, access that calls for a car, and a risky journey without a weekend reservation.
Worth a taste
Császármorzsa
In 2026, Tóth Keve described this as Casa Christa's indispensable signature dessert: a classic, recognisable finish that still has a voice of its own.
Local tip
Book, then arrive in daylight
The final part of the vineyard road is narrow and winding. Arrive 20–30 minutes early, explore the estate and ask about the blackboard specials too.

What guests say
What stays with guests?
The strongest common themes in public reviews are the setting and hospitality: a peaceful, distinctive location, attentive staff and consistent cooking. Overnight guests often highlight the whole estate experience. The recurring compromises are limited weekly opening and car-dependent access.
