It is not just the topping that makes it interesting

Waffalat operates on Kisfaludy utca in Balatonszemes, beside the Music Pavilion. Its foundation is the Liège waffle: pearl sugar goes into a yeast dough and caramelises during baking. The 2025 feature highlighted the crispier outside and softer interior. Understanding the place therefore means more than looking through whipped-cream toppings: the dough itself is part of the concept.

Two sweet directions

The photographs show versions served with strawberries and blueberries, banana, chocolate sauce, crumb toppings and caramel sauce. In a fruit combination, strawberry and blueberry can counterbalance the sweet base; a chocolate-and-whipped-cream version is more clearly a rich dessert. These are photographic examples, not guaranteed daily flavours: fresh fruit especially may depend on the season.

The earlier feature also mentions savoury waffles and names Szemesi Zamatos among local suppliers. If you plan a light meal for that reason, ask about the current savoury selection first. Most photographs show sweets and cannot establish a reliable current savoury menu.

How should you choose on a first visit?

If the waffle dough interests you, start with simpler toppings: less sauce makes it easier to distinguish the baked base from the flavours added to it. If you specifically want a large dessert, choose either the fruity or chocolate direction rather than squeezing every topping into one portion. Sharing two different versions gives a group more scope for comparison.

A stop that suits a walk, but eating in is more practical

The images show both paper trays and plates. For a waffle generously covered with cream, fruit and sauce, ask for cutlery and sit down comfortably. Confirm packaging for a longer takeaway journey; a heavily topped dessert travels differently from a simple pastry.

Coffee and lemonade also appeared in the earlier selection. This can be a short afternoon sweet break without expecting a full meal. We do not carry the summer 2025 schedule over as current hours: outside the season, fresh information from Waffalat’s own page is particularly important.

Worth a taste

Liège waffle with fruit

The fruit version is a good starting point for the sweet pearl-sugar base. Choose from that day's fruit; strawberries in photographs are not a promise of year-round stock.

Local tip

Do not completely cover the dough on your first visit

Simpler toppings let you get to know the base better. Two different versions for two people may make a more interesting comparison than doubling the same heavily topped portion.

The BalatonEats meal plan

How to put your meal together

  1. 01
    Choose a flavour direction

Would you prefer a fresher, fruity dessert or a richer chocolate one? Start there, not simply with the number of toppings.

  2. 02
Let the drink be an accompaniment

Add coffee or the current refreshing drink. A large waffle with whipped cream does not necessarily need another sweet dessert drink alongside it.

  3. 03
    Eat in or take away?

Before packaging, explain how far the portion will travel. For versions loaded with fruit and sauce, eating on site is more comfortable.
