Pavilon is in Balatonboglár at Kodály Zoltán utca 45–49, on the site of an old cooperative drinks shop. Yellow window frames, mosaic floor, red metal chairs: the 1970s Balaton feel has survived, and a seriously taken Italian kitchen has landed on top of it. It’s not a white-tablecloth Italian restaurant, but a playful, nostalgic bistro where the pizza and pasta really are good.
Pizza, pasta, daily specials
The base is pizza from a wood-fired oven, with yeasted and sourdough bases. Earlier tastings praised the lightness of the dough and the balance of toppings; the Giulia with fig and pistachio mortadella was a particular favourite. The pastas are strong too: a courgette and bacon linguine got a good review earlier.
The most interesting part is the daily specials. In 2026 there was Spaghetti Busara with tiger prawns and lobster sauce, wild boar loin in vadas sauce, gnocchi with bacon, grilled calf’s liver with apple and speck, and seafood risotto. One 2026 guest specifically recommended the ossobuco with saffron risotto. For dessert, tiramisu or gelato. When we checked, one dish with a drink was 4,000–8,000 HUF.
The garden
The garden under the plane trees, with colourful chairs, is the best part; inside there are old lamps, telephones and collected objects. Children and dogs are welcome, and there’s a kids’ menu and high chairs. Easy to stop at during a beach day or bike ride, with free parking nearby.
Good to know
The daily specials come and go, so old favourites may not be on. Out of season, opening hours are shorter and more changeable. One returning guest wrote that service had got worse compared with the year before.
Who it’s for
Anyone who wants a good pizza or pasta and likes slightly odd, characterful places. If you’re after a Hungarian csárda or fine dining, keep going. For an Italian lunch in Balaton retro, sit down.
The person behind the place
From Merano to Boglár
The Antal-Tizedes couple from Balatonlelle worked for years in Merano, South Tyrol: Dorisz front of house, Róbert as a cook. They wanted to bring home the simplicity of Italian eating and good ingredients. On a bike ride they spotted the old, empty Boglár drinks shop again, which they had already had their eye on. They kept the original red chairs, Róbert added collected objects, and they opened Pavilon around 2017.

Wood-oven Italian pizza
From a wood-fired oven, with a blistered crust, good tomatoes and mozzarella. Check the day's menu for the exact toppings.
Local tip
Don't stop at the pizza
Start with a wood-oven pizza, but check the daily specials first. If there's ossobuco, seafood risotto or gnocchi, share a portion. Pick a southern-shore wine to go with it.

What guests say
What stays with guests?
Very good: the pizzas, the Italian dishes and the retro setting all draw guests. Many highlight the warm welcome and the nostalgia that isn't dusty. There's the odd specific service complaint, but nothing general.
