Two sides of Balaton, one family story
Ilia makes room for both the traditional lakeside snack bar and a sit-down restaurant. The street-facing section serves à la carte meals, while the courtyard retains a more informal snack-bar atmosphere. A leisurely lunch and a lángos after swimming are two different ways to enjoy the same place.
From the grandparents’ courtyard to today
The family story began in the 1970s, when the grandparents opened two small snack bars in the courtyard of their own home. Today’s Ilia carries that legacy forward in Balatonmáriafürdő. Its name, “Restaurant and Snack Bar”, is therefore not indecision: it describes two sides of the business that grew out of its history.
What to look for on the menu
Lángos, Hungary’s fried flatbread, is a natural introduction to the snack-bar side. Published menus include cheese-and-sour-cream versions and more substantial Hungarian-style toppings; availability depends on the current selection. A separate street-food menu also features burgers, gyros and pulled pork. Do not assume that every menu applies at every counter: check what can be ordered in the section you choose.
The sit-down menu takes another direction with Hungarian meat dishes, fish and sharing platters. That gives a group with different tastes more options than a stop devoted only to lángos. The daily lunch menu is a separate possibility, served from 11:00 to 14:30; the weekly selection is posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
When would we choose it?
We would shortlist Ilia for a family lunch or an informal holiday meal. The colourful chairs and open terrace in the photographs suggest relaxed conversation rather than formal dining. Choose the restaurant section when you want to linger, or explore the snack-bar selection for a simpler meal. This is a suggested way to use the place, not a promise about serving speed.

Bank cards and SZÉP cards are listed as accepted, and the venue describes itself as dog-friendly and accessible; discuss specific needs in advance. Delivery was marked temporarily suspended when checked, so do not plan around it.
